The Dubai Frame – The Largest Picture Frame in The World
You want to call this as the Largest Picture Frame in the world or simply a controversial Building Stolen, whatever be the reference, you cannot ignore the Dubai Frame one large architectural installation located in Zabeel Park.
Fernando Donis, conceived this project and was declared the winner of the Government of Dubai’s design competition. However, it is alleged that the designer was deprived of the credit and his IP was stolen. The Dubai Frame still holds the record for the largest frame in the world.
Standing between two towers at a height of 152 metres and 93 metres wide, this rectangular picture frame is crowned by a 100 square metre bridge on its top. Not only is the colossal structure high on location, it is also a great view point from where you can see the modern Dubai city. On the other side you can even see the Old Dubai city replete with Dubai Creek, the Umm Hurair, Deirs, Bur Dubai and Karama.
The Dubai Frame is attempted to bridge the new and old Dubai in the South and North respectively. One can reminiscence the pearl diving, trading and fishing industries of Dubai the kind of industries that was the main source of livelihood before Oil was struck. The other side of Dubai is all about glamour, jazz and glitz and the opulence. The Dubai Frame ensures that one doesn’t get dazzled by the present and keep the past into perspective too.
Connecting the two columns is a glass walkway which makes the entire experience surreal. It is a complete 360 view of Dubai encompassing South, North, East and West. Not only is the Glass Walkway a lovely walking path but also holds lovely café offering coffee, cookies and pastries. Not only can you nib, eat and sip standing on the glass path.
The Dubai Frame is large, tall and truly a landmark for the city. The views from the top are immersive and are a beautiful combination of the old and new the past and present and future of Dubai. The night view of the Dubai Frame is just too breathtaking.
Climbing up, there is a multimedia exhibition with 3D projections and multi-sensory experience and beautiful timeline of the Dubai city on how it rose and grew transforming itself from a fishing village to a urban luxury city of the world.
