Alserkal Cultural Foundation in Dubai – A Hub for Art and Culture Lovers
Alserkal Cultural Foundation is a non for profit foundation providing facilities in the field of Culture, Art, Creative & allied services for the next generation of artists. The Foundation works in not only identifying the artists but also to develop their skills and talents and market and showcase the same at the foundation premises. The artists may belong to the UAE or the GCC.
Not only does this foundation host a variety of traditional and classy works by domestic and International Artists, it also has a very artsy café and fashion boutique. The structure of the foundation itself is very art-like and has a lovely archaic courtyard surrounding the art pieces. Almost all art pieces are up for sale and there is also a gift shop, workshop space on the top floor and a reading room.
The Alserkal family, behind the foundation has been culturally enriching the UAE keeping the vision of art and culture. Mr. Ahmad Bin Eisa Alserkal, a member of the family and philanthropist laid the vision of the foundation.
It was way back in 1925 that the Heritage House was built by Abdul Razzaq Uztadi. This was renovated keeping the original elements by the Dubai Municipality in 2006. Like most heritage houses during that time, this too boasts of a central courtyard with rooms, a Barjeel, wind tower which would cool the structure.
This building has played host to numerous talks and lectures were organized in association with Poetry Academy, Emirates Philatelic Association, Architectural Heritage Association. The first exhibition was held in May 2008 and inaugurated by H.E. Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr. Famous artists like
Waleed Al Shami. Also in March 2009 the Al Multaqa exhibition was held and attended by his Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum the VP and PM of UAE, and the Ruler of Dubai.
The Alserkal Cultural Foundation has produced scholars, writers and authors of books on Astronomy, chemistry and marine studies. This foundation has also produced entrepreneurs, pearl merchants & innovators.
